In the summer of 2016 I kept noticing the FGF gym on Government Way, a route I frequently drive. I became curious because of the name, reviewed the FGF website and asked my daughter, Mary, if she would be interested in “checking it out.” Well, 14 months later, here we are, regulars at FGF!
I have always been an active person, but this is the longest time I have been involved in a workout gym or program. I hold the FGF staff, members and my constant workout partner (daughter Mary) largely responsible for this! I feel better knowing that I am staying active and healthier through a regular fitness program.
I have learned a lot. The vocabulary around the different lifts alone kept me confused for quite a while. I still have to really concentrate to complete the Turkish Get-Up! I don’t like plate pushes or running although I was quite happy to complete a one mile run without stopping during Marathon May! I have become stronger and more mobile. I like the sense of accomplishment at the end of every workout.
The camaraderie at FGF is one of my favorite parts of being a member. Although we are all at different levels, everyone is encouraging and supportive. The coaches are knowledgable and helpful. They have been willing and able to accommodate my needs for modifications during workouts. My daughter Mary is my best cheerleader and helps holds me accountable. All of the positive interactions keep motivating me to come back!
I retired in 2014 after 34 years in education. I worked as a speech-language pathologist for 20 years then became a school administrator. I served as an elementary school principal, district office staff, and finally as a middle school assistant principal. I loved my work, but love retirement more. My husband and I currently take care of our grandchildren and love doing that. We have lived in Idaho most of our 41 years of marriage with the last 35 years in Coeur d’Alene. We love to travel especially to Italy where we have visited many times. I also like to cook, quilt, bike ride and sing in my church choir.
I look forward to continuing my membership and workouts at FGF. It’s definitely been a good “fit” for me!
